Choose a well detailed photo that shows how you want your pet dosed for the drawing. You may included other pictures of your pet that show details you want included Your pet's head must be at least 2" tall in the
photograph you send for accurate detail. the photograph must be clear and sharp. If it is to light or washed out or the subject is in the shadow, I will deem it undrawable.
Your pet's eyes are a crucial part of the portrait. They are what bring
personality and realism to the drawing. The photos you provide should show
their eyes clearly.
If you are taking a picture specifically for the drawing, take it outside
if possible. Get down at your animal's eye level, so you are not "on top" of
them. Position your pet so the sun is directly in front of them, or at a slight
angle to their face. Never have the sun behind your pet because it will cause
you animal to be in a shadow. Take several with the flash on and off to bring
out the details in the eyes. Never take pictiures in to the sun for it will wash out what you are taking a picture of. Pictures that are mail to us will be returned with the drawing.
Please check each photo you send us against the checklist below. If you
can answer "yes" to each question below, you are most likely to have a
photograph that will work beautifully as artwork reference for a wonderful
pencil portrait drawing.
1. There should be no squinted eyes or red
eye.
2. Is the number of pets to be drawn the same as the number
of pets in the photo? Does the photo show the upper body
only? Multiple subjects in the photo can mean the face of the one
to be drawn is too small and won't blow up clear enough to see detail. Faces must be at least 2 inches tall.
3. When sending photos
over e-mail is the image a clear jpg file? Must be in .jpg file and a file that I can down load and be able to use in my programs. A good way to tell is to print it out
and see how it looks. If you can see the detail, so can the
artist.
Please check the size of
your picture before sending it over e-mail. VERY IMPORTANT: Please do not crop photos before sending them to us.
4. Are your photos snapshots taken by a non professional? Photos taken by a professional photographer or studio must
be accompanied with a signed release from that
professional. NO EXCEPTIONS We will e-mail you the form is needed.
How to send a .jpg file to us.
If you have the photo scan it in to the computer at 300 dpi into a .jpg format. For best results, a resultion of 1280 x 1024 or higher. Photos can be scanned to a CD st some retail stores that have a photo department.
Or you can down load from your camera. Please use the highest resolution your camera
supports. 3.1 (or higher) mega pixel cameras work fine. Cameras with a zoom
lens work best. Don't be afraid to zoom in close to the subject. For pet
photography, have someone hold the pet and zoom in close for a portrait
shot.
Is you are using a 35mm use 100 or 200 speed film, shoot 36
exposures, and get close up to the subject. Choose 3 or 4 of your favorite shots
to send us. A zoom lens will prevent blur. Shooting in early morning
or late afternoon is great for drawings of creating
interesting elongated, artistic shadows. These photos can be saved as a jpeg
file, scanned, and e-mailed to us at the address below. Be sure you send us an attachment file
appropriately sized for e-mailing.
